The Catholic Youth Organization is a recreational youth sports program that offers various sports to participate in. Founded in 1930 in Chicago by Bishop Bernard Sheil, the Catholic Youth Organization inspires young people to know God, to love God, and to serve God through athletics. Through CYO, shaping of young people’s sense of community, confidence, and faith is the objective.
The Diocese of Rochester’s Catholic Youth Organization is an extension of the Department of Catholic Schools. The Catholic schools of the Diocese of Rochester offer families a Catholic education rooted in the Gospel of Jesus Christ and the teachings of the Roman Catholic Church. Our schools lead students to be disciples who know and live the Catholic faith; inspire a learning community to foster academic excellence; and motivate young people to fulfill the two great commandments of Jesus Christ by loving God and self in order to be responsible and give service to our neighbor.
The Diocese of Rochester’s Catholic Youth Organization aims to replicate this by committing to providing competitive experiences in a Christ-centered environment while holding players and coaches accountable to the ethical sportsmanship and gamesmanship standards put in place to preserve CYO.
